How to choose filter element based on filter material

When choosing a filter element, the filter material is a core consideration factor, which directly affects the filtration effect, service life, applicable scenarios, and safety of the filter element. The following are several key steps and points for selecting filter cartridges based on filter materials:


1、 Clearly define filtering requirements


Filtering accuracy: Determine the required filtering accuracy based on the application scenario. Different filtering materials have different ranges of filtration accuracy. For example, PP (polypropylene) filters are suitable for initial filtration of large particles, while ceramic filters or RO (reverse osmosis) membrane filters can provide higher filtration accuracy.


Processing medium: Understand the type of medium to be filtered, including the properties, temperature, pressure, and whether it contains corrosive or special chemicals of the liquid or gas.


2、 Choose the appropriate filtering material


Common filter materials and their characteristics:


PP (polypropylene): Low cost, moderate filtration accuracy, suitable for preliminary filtration.


Ceramics: high temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, high filtration accuracy, but high cost and fragility.


Stainless steel: corrosion-resistant, high temperature resistant, pressure resistant, with a long service life, but also high cost.


Activated carbon: It has strong adsorption capacity and can remove odors and organic substances, but is not suitable for filtering small particles.


RO membrane (reverse osmosis membrane): With extremely high filtration accuracy, it can remove harmful substances such as bacteria, viruses, heavy metals, etc., but the cost is high and requires a certain amount of pressure drive.


Other special materials, such as polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE), polyether sulfone (PES), etc., have special chemical stability and high temperature resistance, making them suitable for special application scenarios.


Material safety: Ensure that the selected filter materials comply with food safety, pharmaceutical safety, or relevant industry standards to avoid contamination of the filter media.


Based on the selection of filter materials, multiple factors need to be considered comprehensively, including filtration requirements, material characteristics, cost-effectiveness, and practical application scenarios. By scientifically and reasonably selecting filter materials, it is possible to ensure that the filtration effect meets the expected goals, while reducing the cost of use and maintenance difficulty.
